Fri 26 July 8.30-10am
Get up close to beautiful moths, learn their sometimes bizarre names, and enjoy a continental breakfast buffet in the woods.
Join us to learn about and look at moths in Hazel Hill Wood, near Salisbury. We’ll start with a short introductory talk about moths and then set off to look through a moth trap and see what’s flown in over night. Moth species have some incredible and bizarre names, like Setaceous Hebrew Character, Elephant Hawk Moth and Maiden’s Blush. Others just look incredible, like Buff Tip (camouflaged to look like a birch twig), Scorched Wing and White Ermine (photo below).
Our continental breakfast buffet including tea, fresh coffee, orange juice and pastries can be enjoyed outside or inside, weather- and people-dependent. We will do our best to accommodate dietary requirements.
Children are welcome to come with a responsible adult who must supervise them at all times.
What to wear
Dress for the weather in clothes and sturdy shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty. We highly recommend long trousers due to the presence of ticks in the wood – please click here for more info. Please check the weather forecast and bring waterproofs, warm layers and insect repellent as appropriate – if you’re not sure then bring it all!
