Hazel Hill Trust provides opportunities for all sorts of groups that may wish to engage in a day visit and can design the day with group leaders to suit individual needs. For example, different conservation tasks vary in level of physical strength or effort required. A typical day follows these timings:
10am | Welcome and short introduction |
10.15am | Activity |
11.30am | Tea break |
11.45am | Activity |
1pm | Lunch |
1.45pm | Activity |
3 or 4pm | Finish |
Activities could include:
- guided nature walks e.g. tree identification, birdsong
- conservation tasks e.g. tree planting, coppicing
- pond dipping with identification guides
- bug hunting with sweep nets and ID guides
- fire lighting without matches
- mindfulness techniques
- forest bathing exercises
It may also be possible to arrange opportunities to learn specific skills such as hurdle making, scything or hedge laying.
The Roundhouse
For groups needing shelter we often use the ‘Roundhouse’, an Outdoor Education Room for discussions, training or practical activities.

The Oak House
When the weather is particularly cold and wet, the Group Room in the ‘Oak House’ provides a warm, yet light and versatile space.

Hazel Hill Wood is primarily off-grid. Our buildings are heated by wood burners, and power comes from solar energy. Toilets are composting toilets, and are not yet wheelchair accessible. Drinking water is available.
