Bat and moth night

8-9.30pm Wednesday 30th Aug 2023

Look for bats flying as the sun sets, and hear bats’ calls through a bat detector. And get a sneak peak at moth trapping.

Join us to learn about and look for bats and moths in Hazel Hill Wood, near Salisbury. We’ll start with a short introductory talk about bats and moths and then set off on a guided walk around the woodland, all led by Charley Miller, our Conservation and Education Coordinator.

This event follows our sold out bat and glow worm night in July (glow worms are unlikely to be seen at the end of August, but there may be more bats, with this year’s offspring taking flight!).

  • Times: 8-9.30pm
  • Tickets £8 + booking fee.
If you can’t make it but would like to learn more, check out our Bat and Glow Worm YouTube video from summer 2021.

What to wear

Dress for the weather in clothes and sturdy shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty. We highly recommend long trousers due to the presence of ticks in the wood – please click here for more info. Please check the weather forecast and bring waterproofs, warm layers and insect repellent as appropriate – if you’re not sure then bring it all! We will be outside for the duration and the temperature may drop rapidly after the sun goes down.

How to get here

Hazel Hill Wood is located off Grimstead Road between Farley and East Grimstead. If using sat nav, use postcode SP5 1AU and you’ll see our yellow and green “Hazel Hill Wood” sign on the road – we don’t have a postcode but this is the farm opposite us.
