BioBlitz 24hr Wildlife Survey

Saturday 3rd to Sunday 4th June 2023.

Come and join the race to find as much wildlife as we can! Experts and interested beginners welcome.

Join us to learn about the wildlife of Hazel Hill Wood, near Salisbury, during this 24 hour BioBlitz. We’ll be running wildlife survey activities from 12-10pm on Saturday and 4am-12pm on Sunday. You are welcome to drop in for as long as you like, or book an overnight ticket and stay for the whole thing. Booking essential.

Children are welcome to come with a responsible adult who must supervise them at all times.

Your donation will support Hazel Hill Trust’s charitable work. Our vision for Hazel Hill Wood is a thriving ecosystem where people come to heal and learn through deeper connection with the living world.

Facilities

The event will be all outdoor, with log seating available at the Campfire Circle and Roundhouse, plus plenty of space for picnic blankets and camping chairs. There are outdoor compost toilets with hand sanitiser, and we will have a mobile hand washing station with soap and water. Drinking water will be available.

Free parking but limited spaces available – please arrive by bicycle, on foot, by taxi or car share if possible.

Staying overnight

What to bring and expect – for overnight stays

- Hazel Hill Wood does NOT provide bedding. Please bring bed sheet, a duvet or sleeping bag and a pillow.

- The Hideaway – 8 bedrooms (7 twin, 1 double), 3 showers and 3 toilets. Please be aware that there is no kitchen in this building.

– Coming alone and want to stay overnight and share a room? Email charley@hazelhill.org.uk and we will do our best to coordinate this.

– Camping – please bring everything you need.

Food – please bring everything else you need for the duration of your visit, including food. Overnight tickets – evening meal and breakfast included.

What to wear

Dress for the weather in clothes and sturdy shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty. We highly recommend long trousers due to the presence of ticks in the wood – please click here for more info. Please check the weather forecast and bring waterproofs, warm layers, sun hat, sun protection and insect repellent as appropriate – if you’re not sure then bring it all! Remember, we will be outside for the duration and the temperature may drop rapidly after the sun goes down.

What to bring

– Plenty of food and drink

– Picnic blanket or camping chairs

– Any wildlife survey kit you may have, e.g. bug pots, binoculars, hand lens, bat detector

– Wildlife identification books and mobile phone apps if you have them (though bear in mind there is very little internet at Hazel Hill Wood)

We will share some equipment for surveys.
