Experiencing The Work That Reconnects

On 3rd & 4th Sept 2025, Sadler Heath, in partnership with Hazel Hill Wood, invite you to their event; Experiencing The Work That Reconnects (Sept 3rd) AND “Hope is the Thing With Feathers…” (Sept 4th).

Day 1: The Work That Reconnects

The Work that Reconnects (WTR) was originally created by Joanna Macy and Molly Brown, as “a form of group work designed to foster the desire and ability to take part in the healing of our world”. Other names you may hear used in other countries are “Deep Ecology” and “Active Hope”.

Clare Southall, supported by Nick Mabey, aims to guide you in discovering how to apply the WTR principles to your own work as we experience times of uncertainty and volatility.

Nick will act as moderator for this event, guiding you on a journey through four stages of the WTR Spiral:

  • Coming from Gratitude
  • Honouring Our Pain for the World
  • Seeing with New/Ancient Eyes
  • Going Forth.

This is work that is deeply concerned with how we navigate through times of global, environmental crises. However, understanding the Spiral offers a way to hold deep, critical conversations in a range of contexts.

We offer the option to stay at the wood overnight (or return the next morning) and take part the following day in an exploration of our own personal relationship to Hope. Ten years ago Clare wrote her Masters Dissertation about Hope, and very recent Gallup Research has shown that Hope is now what followers want from their leaders more than anything else.

Day 2: Hope is the Thing With Feathers

On day two with Clare, we will explore the language, spirit and practices of Hope and how we can bring it alive for ourselves and our clients in these most challenging times.

As this day will also draw some inspiration from the work of Joanna Macy and Chris Johnstone on Active Hope, there is a connecting thread. However, you can choose to attend either the first or second day, or both days.

This is a joint event with Sadler Heath. For more information and to book your place, please see:
